Most of the examples of artificial intelligence you hear about today – from robots playing chess to automatic cars – depend heavily on deep learning and natural language processing. Using these technologies, computers can be trained to perform specific tasks by processing large amounts of data and recognizing the characteristics of the data.

Although much of this technology is still rather rudimentary, we can expect sophisticated AI to have a significant impact on our daily lives.  Here are the ways the AI ​​could affect us in the future:

  • Modern Transport

We are already seeing the beginnings of autonomous cars, although vehicles are currently required to have a driver behind the wheel for safety reasons. Despite these exciting developments, the technology is not yet perfect and acceptance by the public will take some time to generalize the use of automated cars. Various modes of transportation are closer to full automation, such as buses and trains. Robots already support some of the most dangerous work, including defusing bombs. These robots are not quite robots yet, according to the BBC. Technically, they are drones, used as a physical counterpart to defuse bombs, but requiring human control, rather than using AI. Regardless of their classification, they have saved thousands of lives by taking one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. As technology improves, we will likely see increased integration of AI to help these machines function. Other work is also being reconsidered for robot integration. Welding, well known for the production of toxic substances, intense heat and ripping noise, can now be subcontracted to robots in most cases. Robotic welding cells are already in use and that safety devices are in place to help prevent fumes and injuries to workers.

Resolving climate change may seem like a daunting task for a robot, but as Stuart Russell explains, machines have more access to data than anyone has ever been able to, which means a lot of amazing statistics. With the help of big data, AI could one day identify trends and use this information to find solutions to the world’s biggest problems.
